CasadoLab receives the second-highest research funding at UMA, which is also the best-funded university in Andalusia, consolidating its academic excellence

The University of Málaga has secured more than €10 million in funding for research projects under the 2024 call of the National Plan, awarded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. This is the highest amount achieved in recent years, almost doubling the figure from the previous call, which amounted to €5,694,125.

An analysis of the evolution of the funding obtained, the number of projects submitted and awarded, and the predoctoral contracts secured confirms the growing momentum of research carried out by UMA’s teaching and research staff, despite starting from one of the lowest levels of average funding per student in the country.

These grants, aimed at ‘Knowledge Generation Projects’, are part of the State Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovation Research (2024–2027), within the State Programme for Research and Experimental Development.

The funding injection amounts to a total of €10,186,537.50, to be distributed among 63 projects, 27 of which include associated predoctoral contracts. This represents an increase of 78.89% in the overall amount of funding obtained.

According to this provisional resolution, the two projects that received the highest levels of funding belong to the Faculty of Sciences. One is led by researcher Iñaki Vadillo Pérez, who has been awarded a total of €319,375, while the other is led by Professor Juan Casado Cordón, who has received €312,500.

Of the selected projects, 20 correspond to the Humanities and Social Sciences, 12 to the Engineering disciplines, and 31 to the scientific field.
